Kindergarten Curriculum Overview

Our Kindergarten curriculum at Raudatul Atfaal is designed to support comprehensive child development by aligning with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) while integrating Islamic values across all learning domains. This approach nurtures students’ academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth, setting a foundation for lifelong learning within an Islamic framework. Our Kindergartener curriculum is based on hands on learning.

1. Language & Literacy

Objectives: Advance early literacy by building on phonemic awareness, sight words, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Highlights:
- Phonemic awareness.
- Build a strong reading foundation by learning sight words, CVC words, blends, diagraphs.
- Learning to write by forming simple sentences.

2. Mathematics

Objectives: Develop foundational math skills, including number sense, cognitive skills, and simple problem-solving.
Highlights:
- Mathematics and geometric learning using different manipulatives.
- Introduction to classification, learning patterns, simple addition and subtraction etc.

3. Quran/Qayda

Objectives: Introduce students to reading the Quran by first ensuring they master the Qayda
Highlights:
- Strong focus on proper pronunciation (makharij) and rules of tajweed.
- Low student-teacher ratio to ensure focused instruction and support for each child’s learning journey.
- Memorization of approximately last 10 surahs.

4. Islamic Studies

Objectives: Deepen understanding of our beliefs (Aqaid), Seerah (Prophet’s life), Sunnah ways and Islamic history.
Highlights:
- Exploring stories of the Prophets with a focus on lessons like patience, bravery, and trust in Allah.
- Engaging in learning about the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, emphasizing character development and life lessons.
- Learning about our Sunnah of daily life and the importance of good character (akhlaq).
- Memorizing daily duas, and simple ahadith related to virtues of aa’maal.
- Creating arts and crafts related to different topics.

5. Science & Social Studies

Objectives: Encourage young learners to observe and understand the world around them through hands on activities, focusing on basic concepts of life science, physical science and earth science.
Highlights:
- Explore the five senses and how they help us understand our surroundings.
- Introduce basic plant and animal life cycles, fostering an understand of living and non-living things.
- Investigate weather patterns and the natural environment to build awareness of the Earth.
- Learning about community helpers and their roles, emphasizing gratitude and respect.

6. Social & Emotional Development

Objectives: Strengthen emotional awareness, social skills, focusing on kindness, patience, and cooperation.

- Working in groups to practice team building and learning healthy competition.
- Practicing respectful communication, expressions and learning conflict resolution.

Grade 1 Curriculum Overview

Our Grade 1 curriculum at Raudatul Atfaal supports holistic growth in young children, adhering to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards while integrating Islamic values. Our program fosters a balanced approach to academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth, setting the foundation for students to excel academically and embrace core Islamic principles.

1. Language Arts & Literacy

Objectives: Develop reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and early writing skills
Highlights:
- Advanced phonemic awareness, building spelling and vocabulary by learning up to 200 sight words.
- Reading and comprehension activities discussing the main idea, setting, plot and characters.
- Introduction to narrative and opinionated writing with grammar.

2. Mathematics

Objectives: Strengthen foundational math skills to develop early problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
Highlights:
- Develop a strong understanding of place value and number sense, fostering a deep comprehension of numbers and their relationships.
- Work towards fluency in addition and subtraction, building speed and accuracy through practice and mental math strategies.
- Introduction to fundamental concepts of time and measurement.

3. Quran/Qayda

Objectives: Introduce students to reading of Quran by first mastering the Qayda
Highlights:

Objectives: Develop fluency in Reading and reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling and expressive writing skills.
Highlights:
- Reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction literature to build comprehension and vocabulary.
- Writing exercises, including sentence expansion, paragraph writing, and basic story creation, with themes such as gratitude, kindness, and Islamic values.
- Introducing grammar concepts such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and punctuation in the context.
- Practicing oral presentations and discussions about various topics.

2. Mathematics

Objectives: Strengthen skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, place value, money, time, and basic problem-solving.
